We are proud to announce the publication of our 2023 Annual Report.
Last year marked the very sad passing of our beloved Founder, Jonathan Irwin. We wanted our 2023 Annual Report to honour Jonathan’s legacy. We also wanted to reflect on how Jonathan’s resilience in the face of adversity and his passion for supporting the families under our care continues to inspire us, each and every day.
Despite the low of Jonathan’s passing in December, we also celebrated many highs in 2023. We invite you to download a copy to read how 2023 has been another incredible year for Jack and Jill.
Thanks to the continued support and generosity of so many, we funded and delivered 129,904 hours of in-home nursing care and respite support for 534 families in communities across the country last year. This represents a +5.5% increase on our 2022 service levels.
Our service is often called ‘a lifeline’ by many of our families and you can read first-hand in the report some of our wonderful family stories. Life is uncertain for these children, their conditions are rare, prognosis uncertain, hospital visits are frequent. However, we do know that Jack and Jill children can do better at home, because there’s no care like home care.
With approximately 20% of our annual funding coming from the HSE, we face a big fundraising challenge every year and remain extremely grateful for the ongoing support of many individuals and organisations that play such a vital role in keeping our service going.

Our 2023 Annual Report is full of many examples of how we worked in collaboration with our amazing corporate partners across a variety of fundraising initiatives that engaged staff and drove innovative fundraising opportunities. From shop takeovers to hikes, abseils to rollercoasters, and supercars to LEGO recycling; it was an eventful and creative fundraising year!
We also extended our retail footprint significantly in 2023, with the opening of four new charity boutiques in Castlebar (Mayo), Youghal (Cork), Carrick-on-Suir (Tipperary) and Roscommon town. Our retail network provides a window into the communities where many of the families we support live, as well as an all-important revenue stream for the charity.
As ever, none of what we do would be possible without the continued support of our donors both big and small, corporate partners, community fundraisers and the invaluable work of our dedicated Board, who generously volunteer their time and expertise in support of our mission.
We also acknowledge our amazing and inspiring Jack and Jill families, who year after year turn up and support us right back through fundraising and building awareness of our service.
We’re immensely proud that independent research carried out on our behalf revealed that awareness and understanding of our service has increased by +8% in 2023, while 80% of adults in Ireland trust Jack and Jill, an increase of +14% in 2023.
For the third consecutive year, we secured Triple Lock Status from the Charities Institute Ireland, demonstrating our commitment to upholding the highest standards in transparent reporting, ethical fundraising and strong governance structures. In 2023, we won the Finance Team of the Year Award at the Charity Excellence Awards.
