A typical quite Sunday morning in the leafy suburb of Terenure became a hive of activity last Sunday, 19th May, as over 1,400 people descended on Terenure College for the annual Terenure 5 Mile. Now in it’s 29th year Jack & Jill were absolutely delighted and honoured to be the beneficiary charity for this professionally organised event which runs like clockwork from start to finish.
Jack & Jill patron, Eddie Hobbs, together with Sportsfile member Sandra Gowan, counted down the walkers, joggers and runners to the start at 11am when a sea of people of all ages, indeed some over 65 years of age, took on the 5 mile flat course around the local vicinity and back to Terenure College for the finish. The carnival atmosphere was fantastic with everyone in good spirits due to the glorious sunshine in the capital. After a while the tired and not so tired participants arrived back to a wonderful array of refreshments including water, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee and sandwiches before the prize giving took place including some very nice spot prizes and up to €4,000 in cash prizes.
We would like to thank everyone who came out last Sunday to support the event and raise vital funding for our families and babies in each community throughout Ireland. We would especially like to thank Sportsworld Running Club for choosing us as their charity this year and in particular Paddy Lynch, Chairman, Trevor Lloyd and Stephen Willoughby – it was indeed a pleasure to be associated with such a professional club and event. Many thanks also to Eoin O’Malley, Leinster Rugby star, who helped us launch the run earlier in April at Sportsworld in Bushy Park.
Sincere thanks to our Jack & Jill corporate partners Zurich Insurance who kindly sponsored the t-shirts and gantry area and Applegreen who provided the water to keep everyone hydrated. In addition, a big thank you to Michael Durnin of Total Produce for providing the delicious fruit which was so welcome on such a sunny morning and local Newbridge trader Dick Wixstead also. Your generosity is so very much appreciated!!!
