A Tipperary family will find out later today the 27th of September whether the HSE can take on respite care requirements for their son.
4 year old JJ Ryan has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, is profoundly deaf and has a number of other health concerns – his doctors say his everyday care is ‘extremely demanding’ of his parents.
He and his family has been supported by Jack and Jill until now but unfortunately due to funding restrictions the Foundation cannot continue to care for children like JJ once they reach 4.
JJ’s parents and representatives of his medical team will meet with the HSE to see if the help provided by the Foundation until now can be continued through them.
JJ’s mother Michelle has spoken to Newstalk’s Shona Murray about the difficulties in caring for her son, particularly when he gets sick, like last winter when he was taken to hospital 8 times:
