Carmel Doyle to step down as CEO of The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation
Head of Retail and Compliance, Deirdre Walsh, to step in as Interim CEO
The Board of the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation has appointed Deirdre Walsh as Interim CEO from 1st January 2024
Jack and Jill and Deirdre
Currently Head of Retail and Compliance at the charity, Deirdre began her career with Jack and Jill as a volunteer 16 years ago, moving on to become a Fundraising Executive, and then to lead the Fundraising team for over seven years. More recently, Deirdre has orchestrated the successful expansion of the Retail arm of the organisation, which today includes 16 charity boutiques and an online store. Indeed in 2022, retail income for Jack and Jill saw a 67.5% increase versus the previous year, demonstrating Deirdre’s commitment to the strategic growth in this area, and with three additional charity boutiques in the pipelines; this positive trajectory is set to continue as a major fundraising income stream for Jack and Jill.
In her Compliance role, Deirdre has been instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of governance and transparency across the organisation, including securing Triple Lock Status from the Charities Institute earlier this year. This is awarded to charities that uphold the highest standards in transparent reporting, ethical fundraising and strong governance structures.
Deirdre takes over as Interim CEO for Carmel Doyle, who is stepping down as CEO after 15 years with Jack and Jill; five years at the helm.
Thank You Carmel!

Carmel has led the charity through a pivotal period of transition and growth to meet the demands for its core service, and has seen the Foundation through many challenges, and countless successes, during her tenure at Jack and Jill.
The Future
Team Jack and Jill remains committed to delivering our mission – empowering the families we support to care for their child at home, by funding and delivering nursing, respite and advocacy.
The process to recruit a new CEO is underway; we thank Deirdre for stepping into the role as Interim CEO from January 2024 and we wish Carmel all the very best in the next chapter of her career.
